BioDan Purdy joined Forensic Document Examination Services Inc. in 1999 after 30 years as a forensic scientist with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of British Columbia and was trained by the RCMP at their Vancouver Laboratory from 1969 to 1971. In 1979, Mr. Purdy transferred to the RCMP's Ottawa laboratory and worked as a document examiner before becoming head of its Operational Support unit. In 1986 he was appointed head of the Ottawa Document Section and in 1989 was promoted to Chief Scientist Document Services, a position he held for over 10 years. Active in many professional organizations, Mr. Purdy joined the Canadian Society of Forensic Science in 1971 and served terms as Document Section Chairperson, Director and Society Treasurer. He is certified by the American Board of Forensic Document Examiner and has been a member of the American Society of Questioned Document Examiners since 1991 and served on its Executive Committee as Director, Secretary, Vice President before serving a 2-year term as President from 2005-2006. He is also a member of the American Academy of Forensic Science. During his career, Mr. Purdy has written over 20 scientific papers. He has examined over 3500 cases involving more than 40,000 documents and has testified as an expert witness in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, the Yukon Territories, Nunavut, Bermuda and the United States.
