Bio


My name is Lauro Amezcua-Patino MD, I am the founder and President of Amezcua-Patino BHCE.

I completed my medical education in Mexico, and received my postgraduate specialty training in Phoenix, Arizona. I have received training as a Psychiatric Physician, with sub-specialty in addiction psychiatry and adolescent psychiatry.

I am Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology with sub-specialty in Addiction Psychiatry. I am Board Certified by the American Board of Adolescent Psychiatry and American Board of Forensic Medicine.

I am a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.

Currently I am the CEO and Medical Director of Metropolitan Psychiatric Physician, a single specialty medical group in the Metropolitan Phoenix Area.

I continue to practice both inpatient and outpatient Psychiatry, and provide Medical Director services for Adolescent Psychiatry at Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa, Arizona.

I am a member in good standing of the American Psychiatric Association and have been deeply involved in the activities of organized Psychiatry in Arizona. I have had the privilege of being elected to multiple leadership positions in the Arizona Psychiatric Society, including President, President-elect, vice-president, Secretary, Treasurer. I have been a Co-Chair of the Government Relations Committee for the Arizona Psychiatric Society since 1990, and participated in the development of legislation and programs including but not limited to: Duty to warn, Guilty but insane legislation, increased funding for behavioral health, sexual offender issues, State Hospital Issues, Seriously Mentally Ill service delivery.

Our group has extensive experience in working with HMO's and managed care companies in the implementation and development of cost effective Physician delivery systems both in the private and public sectors.

I have provided clinical expert testimony for forensic Psychiatric cases in different areas of the forensic spectrum for both plaintiffs and defendants.

I was appointed to the Joint legislative Committee on Sex Offender Treatment by the Governor of the State of Arizona in the Fall of 1997, and previously appointed by the Governor as a member of a Blue Ribbon Behavioral Health Action Committee in 1993.

The Governor of the State of Arizona appointed me as a member of the State of Arizona, Psychiatric Security Review Board in 1997, was confirmed by The Arizona Senate, and currently serve as Chairman. This is the Board with Jurisdiction over all individuals who have been found guilty but insane, during the length of their criminal sentences.

I have been an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Medicine for Mid Western University in Phoenix, Arizona and the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine since 1998.
